HYPOCRITES & STRIPPERS, Kim Yaged’s award-winning play about sex and selling out, unfolds as Jyl (played by the multi-talented Eva DeVirgilis) tells the story of her attraction to the lithe young women who strip for a living, and her inner turmoil as she tries to justify looking at other women as sex objects.
She also has to deal with the social stigma of always dating women on the outskirts of the sex industry. “What’s tougher, do you think?” Jyl muses. “Telling your parents you’re a lesbian, or telling them you are dating a stripper?”
The play is by turns hilarious and touching and has lots to say about how women are viewed in today’s society – especially by other women!
Eva DeVirgilis is making her debut in a Richmond Triangle Players production. She received rave reviews (and a 2013 Richmond Theater Critics Circle nomination for Best Actress) in Henley Street Theater’s production of Jane Wagner’s The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, and just finished a celebrated run in Virginia Rep’s production of Moliere’s Tartuffe. Eva’s TV credits include Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Saturday Night Live, and All My Children. She holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from The New School University in NYC.
