Richmond is the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, with roughly 400 years of history. This history, definitely includes robust LGBTQ activism that pushed the envelope and fought for equal rights in the former southern capital. Activists like Shirley Lesser fought the existing sodomy laws that still existed in the eighties and didn't give up. Lesser went on to found Virginians for Justice, now Equality Virginia and OutRichmond.

Richmond is bursting at the seams with diversity, boasting a solid gay scene, much of it in bars and clubs near Virginia Commonwealth University. Locals in the 1.2 million plus city are filled with pride and ready to , including their notable craft beer, foodie, fashion (and arts!) revolutions. Richmond is host to VA PrideFest, with over 30,000 people held on September 23rd on Brown's Island. VA Pride began extendingitself fully into the Commonwealth, seeking to create an "umbrella" organization to unify and support other LGBT organizations in Virginia.

There's plenty to see and do any time of the year in Richmond. Whether you're looking for first class dining, outstanding bars, and an incredible arts scene it's always time to celebrate in River City!
