Mozart Festival 2016

On Saturday, April 16th, 11am-11pm Classical Revolution #RVA is proud to present the third annual Mozart Festival in Richmond’s Arts & Culture District and Historic Jackson Ward! Over 100 area musicians will come together to present the chamber music, symphonies and operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. From 11am to 9pm, all of the events are free and open to all ages! #MozartFestRVA Schedule: 11am-1pm: Eine Kleine Food Truck Musik Gallery5 (200 W. Marshall St.) Black Iris Music (321 W. Broad St.) Big Secret (120 W. Marshall St.) Various small groups performing chamber music and art song at Gallery5, Big Secret, and Black Iris Gallery (with a real piano!). Food trucks will be parked outside at both locations. Be sure to stop by Black Iris to try our special “Don Giovanni” blend by Black Hand! *This event is sponsored by Rhapsody Piano and Guitar. 11am: Crafts at Atlas* Atlas Gallery (114 W. Marshall St.) Children and families are invited to make flutes out of carrots and other fun creations in preparation for the interactive performance of The Magic Flute! 1pm: The Magic Flute* Atlas Gallery (114 W. Marshall St.) The story of The Magic Flute will be read aloud by Harry Kollatz, story-time style, and key arias will be performed by professional vocalists, accompanied by keyboard and magic flute. Children will be asked to participate, so come early and make those crafts! 2pm: Student Recital* Atlas Gallery (114 W. Marshall St.) Young violinists, violists, cellists and pianists will perform the music of W.A. Mozart. A combined group of students from all over Richmond, including the entire 2nd grade class from St. Andrew’s school, will perform “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”. *These events are sponsored by Relay Foods. 2pm: The Richmond Cello Orchestra Gallery5 (200 W. Marshall St.) *moved from Big Secret A group of 20 cellists unite to perform their own arrangements of Mozart’s music. *This event is sponsored by Four Strings. 3pm: The Impresario Coalition Theater (8 W. Broad St.) Capitol Opera Richmond presents their own production of The Impresario, a comic opera by Mozart at Richmond’s favorite comedy club, the Coalition Theater. The opera is a spoof on the vanity of singers, who argue over status and pay. 4pm: Symphonies and Requiem Candela Books + Gallery (214 W. Broad St.) A full orchestra and members of the Richmond Symphony chorus, conducted by the RSO’s new Associate Conductor, Chia-Hsuan Lin, will perform selections from Mozart’s symphonies, the Requiem, and his concerto for flute and harp. Wine and Hardywood beer will be available. *This event is sponsored by Joe and Caroline Murillo. 5:30pm: Wolfgang 101 Saison Market (323 N. Adams St.) Darryl Harper, chair of VCU’s music department, will give a brief, informative talk entitled, “How Mozart’s Music Means”, with musical examples. *This event is sponsored by VCU Music 7pm: Mozart’s Greatest Hits Atlas Gallery (114 W. Marshall St.) Vocalists will perform favorite arias from Mozart’s operas, accompanied by full orchestra and conducted by Christopher Swanson, conductor of the Lynchburg Symphony. Wine and Hardywood beer will be available, and food trucks will be parked outside the gallery. 9pm: Burlesque! Gallery5 (200 W. Marshall St.) This Mozart-themed Burlesque show is not to be missed! Dancers will be draw inspiration from live performances of Mozart’s string quartets, quintets, and arias.
